Why is it so important to eat healthy? When your body isn’t cooperating, it can seem like you’re missing out on all the fun. Why restrict yourself so much if no one really knows when their number is up anyway? That is your brain playing tricks on you and your body trying to live in the pleasure-filled moment. Have you ever made sacrifices that felt good?

What about that saying about how nothing feels better than a hard day’s work? When you work hard towards a goal, you feel good, and the same goes for your body when you learn the importance of a healthy diet. When is the last time that you ate a meal that was a bit bigger than you should have allowed yourself to eat? Maybe it’s not the portions but instead the food choices that you made. Sure, I’d like a chicken fried steak, loaded mashed potatoes and fried okra with soda every night for dinner. But, do I want to suffer the consequences?

You want reasons for eating healthy, and I’m going to give them to you. For every bad food choice you face each and every day, there is a polar opposite reason why you should feel good about choosing healthy eating instead. Instead of thinking of that moment when you stuff your face, think ahead to this weekend’s date. Are you trying to stay slim and trim, working out in the gym, at home or outside on a daily basis? What reason can you come up with that would make you feel good for saying no?

You don’t have to know your end game. You just need to be looking at short-term goals to keep yourself on track. If you really stop and think about that bad food choice, it really does matter to you. You just need a moment to reflect and make a conscious decision and not an impulsive one. When you find yourself making a conscious decision yet still warring with unhealthy eating, then you need to think about more than just short-term goals.

It’s time to bring in the big guns and think about the long-term effects of unhealthy eating. Think about the people you know that are older than you. Now, you’re not going to start blaming people for what conditions you have noticed they have, and no one is saying that they even caused their conditions to occur. Look, we all age and that’s a part of life. But you can battle against aging by making the right decisions, one at a time.

You are also going to have to stay informed about healthy eating and what choices are out there. Of course, you have to do more than just eat the right foods. You need to be working out, and you need to be taking care of your skin, hair and body in general. You can’t do anything about genetics, but you sure can live not only a healthy lifestyle but a happy one. And if you think you can be happier living an unhealthy lifestyle, it’s a mirage.
